IASO NEW INVESTIGATOR AWARD 2010
APPLICATION FOR THIS AWARD IS NOW CLOSED
IASO is searching for the most outstanding International New Investigator in the field of obesity research.
Criteria for eligibility:
- You should be a graduate student, physician resident still in training, or postdoctoral fellow in the first five years of fellowship at the time the abstract is submitted
- You must have had a major role in designing, conducting and evaluating the study

The deadline for receipt of completed application forms is Friday 29th January 2010. Finalist winners for this award will be announced in early March 2010.
The award finalists will be asked to present their research at the IASO New Investigator Award evening at the ICO2010 Congress in Stockholm. The award winner will be judged and announced during this session and will receive an award plaque.

IASO Travelling Fellowships Awards 2010
APPLICATION FOR THIS AWARD IS NOW CLOSED
IASO travel bursary awards are available to assist scientists and clinicians to attend ICO who would otherwise be precluded from participation at ICO for financial reasons. Self nomination is permitted.
Criteria:
- Applicants for this award must demonstrate their financial need for such support to attend the ICO meeting
- Applicants must be an IASO member
- Priority will be given to applicants from developing nations as defined by the World Bank criteria and for those who have submitted an abstract online via IASO Conference Management System
- There is no age limit

The applications should include:
- Date of application
- Name of the Award
- Name of applicant with full institutional affiliation
- Letter of recommendation (max 1 page – written by a member of the National Obesity Association supporting the application)
- Full CV of candidate, including publications list
- PDFs of 1-2 papers published by the candidate

IASO Awards for Scientific Excellence 2010
APPLICATION FOR IASO SCIENTIFIC AWARDS IS NOW CLOSED
The International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) would like to invite nominations for its Awards for Scientific Excellence 2010. These will be presented during the 11th International Congress on Obesity (ICO) in Stockholm, Sweden, 11-15 July 2010.
Clinical Research Award
(The Willendorf Award)
Introduced in 1980, this award for excellence recognizes outstanding clinically oriented research related to obesity.
Previous award winners: George A Bray, MD (1980); Per Björntorp, MD (1983); Jules Hirsch, MD (1986); Jean Vague, MD (1990); Claude Bouchard, PhD (1994); Albert Stunkard, MD (1998); Lars Sjoström, MD (2002), Yuji Matsuzawa, MD (2006).
Criteria:
- Candidates for this award must demonstrate substantial contributions to clinical orientated research related to obesity
- There is no age limit

Basic Research Award
(The Wertheimer Award)
In 1986, the Wertheimer award was introduced to recognise outstanding basic research contributions to the field of obesity.
Previous award winners: Benjamin Shapiro, PhD (1986); Bernard Jeanrenaud, MD (1990); Gérard Ailhaud, PhD (1994); Jeffrey Friedman, MD, PhD (1998); Daniel Ricquier, PhD (2002), Kenji Kangawa, PhD (2006).

- Candidates for this award must demonstrate substantial contributions to basic research related to obesity

Population Science and Public Health Award
This award was introduced to the IASO Awards portfolio in 2006 for outstanding contributions to this field of obesity.
Past award winner: Philip James (2006).
Criteria:
- Candidates for this award must demonstrate substantial contributions to Population Science and Public Health
- There is no age limit

The Young Investigator Award
(The André Mayer Award)
In 1983, the André Mayer Award was introduced for outstanding research in the field of obesity by a younger investigator.
Previous awards winners: Paul Trayhurn (1983); Michael Lean (1986); Eric Ravussin (1990); Arne Astrup (1994); Dominique Langin (1998); David Allison (2002); Sadaf Farooqi (2006)
Criteria:
- Applicants for this award must demonstrate a significant contribution to the field of obesity
- Applicants should be within 15 years of a research degree or a primary degree

How to apply
IASO encourages members of its National Obesity Associations to nominate candidates for the Awards. No self nominations will be accepted.
To nominate a candidate
The nominations should include:
- Date of nomination
- Name of the Award
- Name of candidate with full institutional affiliation
- Letter of recommendation (max 2 pages – written by the person nominating the candidate)
- Full CV of candidate, including publications list
- PDFs of five key papers published by the candidate
- Signature of two members of an IASO National Obesity Association supporting the nomination
Award winners will be invited to make a plenary presentation of their research during ICO 2010 and given a plaque commemorating the Award. Award winners will be provided with 3 nights hotel accommodation during the Congress, return economy airfare to Stockholm, Congress registration, Stockholm City Hall reception ticket, as well as a $1,000 US honorarium.
Nominations will be reviewed by the IASO Awards Committee and the winner will be announced in January 2010.

Other Awards
ECOG and Louis Bonduelle Research Award 10,000 Euros.
The Award will recognise an achieved or ongoing public health prevention action or research work on Nutrition or Eating Habits in children and adolescents.
The main goal of the programme should be promoting a healthy nutrition and lifestyle and to combat obesity through clinical, psychological, sociological or epidemiological research or action.
Deadline for submitting work: 30th June 2009.
