Introduction

Overweight and obesity have become one of the main public health problems in the Arab countries. Studies showed that the prevalence of obesity in the most Arab countries exceeds that reported in the western countries. This prevalence was not only high in adults, but also among children and adolescents. It is well documented that obesity is a risk factor for heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and some forms of cancer. These diseases have become the main causes of death in the Arab world. Therefore, prevention and control of obesity will contribute significantly to prevent these chronic diseases. The change in lifestyle, inactivity and dietary habits in the Arab countries during the past four decades are highly responsible for the occurrence of obesity.

Objectives of the Conference

1. Explore the recent studies and research related to prevent, control and treat obesity.

2. Explore the programmers currently implemented in Arab countries to overcome obesity and encourage physical activity.

3. Study factors than associated with obesity.

4. Emphasis the role of physical activity in prevention and control of obesity.

5. Exchange knowledge and experience related to obesity and physical activity.

1. Social, economical, lifestyle and dietary factors associated with obesity in the Arab countries.

2. Factors determining physical activity.

3. Successful programmers to overcome obesity and encourage physical activity in the Arab countries.

4. The role of marketing and mass media in misconception or control of obesity.

5. Assessment of obesity and physical activity among children, adolescents and adults.

6. The role of diet, behavior change, pharmacotherapy and surgery in obesity treatment.
