Buda Castle Walking Tour

Explore Budapest’s Castle district on foot!  We will cross the Danube via the famous Margaret Bridge (Margaret Island) and then drive to the Royal Castle on the Buda side of the city.  From here we can see the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. After a quick photo opportunity at the Citadel and its marvellous view, we will return to the famous ’Vaci utca’ area of the city centre.

Budapest Sightseeing Tour

The first stop is the impressive neo-gothic Houses of Parliament.  We then cross the Danube via the Margaret Bridge, and drive to the Royal Castle.  From here you can see some of the city’s most impressive attractions such as the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. We will then cross the Elisabeth Bridge, via the city park, to reach Heroes’ Square (Promenade).  After passing the Opera House and Saint Stephen’s Basilica, the tour will end in the city centre.

Budapest Synagogue Tour – Greatest Synagogue in Europe*

Judaism is one of the first recorded monotheistic faiths and one of the oldest religious traditions still practiced today. The tour allows you to explore some of the history of this religion. The first stop is the Cemetery in Kozma Street, which not only highlights Budapest’s Jewish culture, but also highlights examples of 19th Century architecture. Perhaps the most fascinating part of the tour is the Great Synagogue in Dohány Street, the second largest synagogue in the world. Ödön Lechner, József Hild and Frigyes Feszl designed the luxurious interior.  The tour will end with a traditional Jewish lunch at the famous Restaurant Carmel.

Queen Sissi Royal Tour of Gödöllô

The town of Gödöllô is 30 km from Budapest, and its most famous sight is the Grassalkovich Palace - the largest palace in Hungary. Maria Theresa stayed at the Palace several times, and it was the favourite home of Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) in the 19th Century. Restoration is underway, but several wings are open to the public.

The Artists’ Village of Szentendre

The cultural town of Szentendre, 20 km from Budapest, dates back to the 14th century. In the town of ‘Arts and Artists’, which sits on the bank of the Danube, you will find many Serb Orthodox monuments and more than twelve museums – including an open-air folk museum, a confectionary museum, and a marzipan museum.  The town is steeped in relaxed, Mediterranean charm.

The Danube Bend – an Excursion into Hungary’s History*

The first stop of the tour is Visegrád, the former Royal residence, where there is a picturesque view of Dunakanyar, (The Danube Bend). The tour then continues to Esztergom, the centre of the Catholic Church in Hungary. After a tour of the Cathedral, we will return to Budapest by boat along the Danube.

Herend – the City of World Famous Porcelain

Herend is at the pinnacle of porcelain-making in Hungary. Until recently, only a privileged few saw for themselves how Herend's marvellous works of art were made. Now you can!

The factory founded by Vince Stingl, and later revived by Mor Fischer, is more than 175 years old. Since 1851 its meticulous, hand-painted masterpieces of unrivalled beauty have won countless gold medals at world exhibitions. Herend Porcelain can be found on the tables of monarchs, princes, aristocrats, statesmen and Hollywood stars.  A visit to the Minimanu factory will show you how china clay can be transformed into light, delicate porcelain - how nimble fingers knead it, mould it, throw it, fire it, glaze it and paint it.

The Christian Museum and Basilica in Esztergom*

The town of Esztergom, 70 km from Budapest, is the seat of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church. It was a royal seat until the 13th century, and St. Stephen was crowned here.

The cathedral is Hungary's largest church, and the Christian Museum is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

Trip to Hollókô (World Heritage Site)*

Secluded among the ridges of the Cserhát Hills, Hollóko was the first village to be declared a World Heritage site. The medieval structure of the village is unique: 58 buildings make up the town’s centre with a white-washed picturesque church.

The exhibitions in Kossuth street evoke the 19th century.  At no. 80, the Post Office Museum offers visitors a rare glimpse into the correspondence of the local families and no. 94 houses an exhibition tracing the history of weaving as well as a workshop where traditional weaving techniques are demonstrated. No. 82 houses a traditionally structured Village Museum depicting life in the 1920’s.

The Doll Museum displays a collection of 200 large porcelain dolls in colourful Palóc costumes and the 13th-century castle atop the hill offers a splendid view of the landscape and the old village.  The Bükk National Park visitor centre is dedicated to wildlife in the Hollóko region, the culture of the Palóc community and the life of the farmers.

Lake Balaton and Tihany Peninsula*

Lake Balaton, also know as the ‘Hungarian Sea’, lies at the heart of the Transdanubia region.  This lake, Central Europe’s largest, is 77 km long with opalescent, yellow-green waters covering 600 square kilometres.

First stop is the Tihany Peninsula, a famous nature reserve with a variety of rare flora and fauna. We will then visit the Benedictine Abbey which was founded in 1055.  The Abbey houses a memorial room dedicated to the last Hungarian King, Charles IV, and to Roman and medieval monuments. The life of the former fishing village is preserved in the open-air Ethnographical Museum and in the folk Potter's House in the old village.

After an early dinner in a traditional Csárda, we will drive to the oldest spa in Balatonfüred - where the first Balaton steamship departed from, and where the rich and famous of the last century built their villas.

Greek Catholic Memories Tour (Budapest – Szentendre – Eger)*

This tour offers you the opportunity to explore some of the most famous Greek Catholic sites in the Budapest region of Hungary. The tour starts in Budapest, visiting the Greek Orthodox Church which was built in the 18th century.

Next we drive to Szentendre and visit the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the Main Square and the historic centre of the city. After a delicious lunch in Szentendre, the tour will continue to Eger, where we will visit the Serbian Orthodox Church (Ráctemplom), famous for its wood-cover of Syrmia. Before returning to Budapest, you will taste local wines in one of Hungary’s 22 wine regions. Gourmands, wine-lovers and those who are interested in Greek Catholic history, should take this tour.

‘King of Wines – Wine of Kings’ – Visit to the Tokaj region*

This tour takes you to the north of Hungary – to the ancient borders of Upper Hungary, Transylvania and Poland.  We will visit the Tokaj-Hegyalja historical wine region where the world-famous Tokaji Aszú is produced.

While tasting the famous wines of this region, you will discover that our friends at the OREMUS Winery have preserved the centuries-old tradition of Aszú wine production to make the best possible Tokaj wine.

The wine tasting ends with dinner and we will spend the night at the picturesque valley of Lillafüred, in its castle hotel.  The hotel was built in neo-renaissance style in 1930 and is surrounded by a beautiful hanging garden.  The stunning view to Szinva Stream waterfall and Hámori Lake will make your stay here even more magnificent.

The following day, we will visit the town of Eger, characterised by architecture influenced by the 91 year long Turkish Rule - such as the graceful Minaret which is the northern-most point of the former Ottoman Empire.

On the way back to Budapest we will stop at Mezokövesd, the capital of "Matyó Land".  We will visit the Matyó Museum, highlights of which are colourful homes, gardens, traditional embroideries and folk costumes.
