IASO is actively engaged with international policy related projects globally and is in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). We have contributed to the development of WHO guidelines on nutrient profiling, on monitoring the marketing of foods and beverage to children, and WHO recommendations on child obesity. Most recently, IASO contributed to the UN High Level Meeting on NCDs and subsequently helped ensure that a target for reducing the prevalence of obesity was included in the WHO Global Monitoring Framework for NCDs, published November 2012 and later the WHA omnibus resolution on tackling NCDS, published May 2013.
In addition, IASO has participated in a number of EU projects with numerous partner organisations, exploring issues such as the marketing of food and drink to children, environmental causes of obesity, obesity prevention in pre-school children and the health impacts of obesity.
IASO is now working to provide a number of tools to strengthen the voice of its members and empower them to become more active in obesity policy and advocacy in their countries and regions.
These projects are generally part funded and IASO seeks to secure the remaining required financing. Please email or contact us at the address below if you are interested in supporting any of this work.
